The Whitewright Rambler notes a Domino Tournament starting at 1 p.m. on July 4 at American Legion Park sponsored by Sam Montgomery and the unofficial Domino Club of Whitewright. It also reports local fund-raising by Whitewright youth, upcoming singing at the Assembly of God, and community tidbits including ads and plans for Whitewright’s Fourth of July celebration.
A interdenominational crusade runs June 22 to 29 at Blue Ridge football stadium with 14 area churches. Evangelist Dan Vestal of Fort Worth and Joe Atkinson of Arlington lead, with Rev. Peck Williams directing. Services begin 7 30 p.m. nightly, except June 29 at 3 p.m. Attendance expected from Grayson and Hunt counties. Vestal’s 30 years in evangelism and 1 000 revival meetings noted. Atkinson a Baylor Southwestern Seminary alumnus and veteran singer.
Whitewright Community club meets in Fireman's Hall with guest speaker Mrs. Priscille Riker president of the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce and Town and Country Club. She outlines July 4th events and urges plan participation. Next meeting hosted by Mrs. Hatfield features a program on Sam Rayburn.
Elton L. Miller notes Bill McFatridge will turn over Whitewright Rotary leadership to Chuck Wilson of First National Bank. The piece recalls the club's activities including hosting Rotarians from India, awarding a scholarship, supporting the July 4 event, and a call to open a Carl's Tasty Sausage themed family restaurant in downtown Whitewright, branding the CTS sausage as a local hallmark.
Comptroller Bob Bullock announced monthly city sales tax rebates totaling $28.8 million to more than 800 cities and towns, with several small towns listed among recipients. He credited earlier end-of-quarter tax payments and the shift from quarterly to monthly rebates for the higher totals, noting interest savings from avoiding 60 to 90 day waits. Each city with the one percent local tax received a payment this month.
At a Fort Worth National Bank of Texas board meeting chairman D A Weckworth announced Carl H Edwards of Whitewright Texas was appointed to the board. Edwards is president of Edwards Chevrolet in Whitewright and director and senior vice president of the First National Bank of Tom Bean. Weckworth said earnings exceeded forecasts by 50 percent and deposits doubled versus 1974.

Grayson County high sheriff Woody Blanton urged ending the practice of housing mentally ill elderly in Sherman lockup. He recalled east Texas arrest patterns and praised new police training requirements and reforms since his 29 years in law enforcement.
Whitewright Chamber of Commerce invites slogan ideas with prizes of merchandise and a Chamber dinner invitation. Local TV promotions feature Billy Dyer Gina Judd Priscille Riker Edith Jester Carla Howell and others. Parade plans include eleven floats two prize categories and judging by Ben Munson and Eddie Shadden. Entry details via Darla Howell Sue Brinkley and Edith Jester.
Evangelist Rev. A. D. Campbell of Denison will speak at a revival June 22 to 27 at Whitewright’s First United Methodist Church. Services start 7 p.m. nightly. Campbell, pastor of Harless Memorial UMC, holds a math theology master’s and is chaplain of the Grayson County Scottish Rite Association. Pastor Bob Bryan invites area residents to attend.
Sheriff Blanton, born and raised in the Ely community, describes a tough upbringing and a calling to service. He notes the importance of education, stating he would not trade his profession for any other if starting over today, and gives credit to personal faith for guiding his career.
In 1878 Sam Bass and Frank Jackson planned a Round Rock bank holdup along with partner Barnes. Texas Rangers led by Maj. John B. Jones closed in after a tip from Murphy, prompting gunplay near Robertson's store on Main Street during the abortive robbery attempt.
Deputy Grimes was mortally wounded when Bass opened fire inside a Round Rock store. Maurice Moore of Travis County and others described the chaotic shootout as Texas Ranger George Harrell fatally shot Bass after a lengthy pursuit ending near a blacksmith shop.
