Judging of divisions in the yard beautification contest sponsored by the Friday Literary Club is finished. Prizes, mostly evergreen plantings, will be awarded per judge decisions with three first prizes in the best all round yard division and second and third places in other divisions. Chicago 1933 Century of Progress offers eighty two miles of displays in more than fifty buildings with eighty five percent funded by the exposition free to visitors under the admission price. Children under twelve pay a reduced rate and rides along Midway and Enchanted Island have extra charges.
Mrs. Jack Hanna of Sherman and Miss Martha Jo Sears entertained with a bridge and forty-two party at Mrs. T. E. Sears home Wednesday afternoon honoring Miss Marian Barbee bride elect of Mr. Francis Marion Armstrong of Plano. High score honors awarded Mrs. Grady Riley. gift presented to the honoree. Three bridge tables and one forty-two table. Out of town guests included Mrs. Grady Riley of Trenton Mrs. Eldridge Pendleton of Farmersville Mrs. A. A. Adams Mrs. Thom mie Thompson and Mrs. J. L. Dyer of Sherman.
Misses Lela Hall Vera Hall and Tina Frazier of Ravenna were guests of Mrs Marguerite Montgomery on Sunday.

Teofilo Garcia of La Grulla grew the first 1933 cotton bale, ginned at Mission, rushed to Houston by H S Edwards and others. The bale sold to the Houston Cotton Exchange for 150 dollars with no open bidding, car speeds reaching about 62 mph as rival bales competed.
Mrs. V. V. Beck and her children have returned to Plainview from a visit at the home of Rev. and Mrs. L. G. Hagard. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Hagard and her children. Mrs. Hagard and Mrs. Beck are sisters.

Joseph A. May 86 longtime Whitewright resident died at his home Wednesday afternoon after months of ill health. Born June 25, 1847 in Knox County Tennessee he came to Texas in 1869 and worked hard to build a small fortune. Funeral services are planned at the Presbyterian Church at 3 this afternoon with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery under Masonic Lodge auspices.
Governor Miriam A. Ferguson vetoed a bill allowing the Texas Prison Board to bid on state printing and three other measures. She opposed nonresidence hunting licenses, a 67 cent ad valorem tax cap, and a central mailing bureau, citing fiscal deficits and state obligations.
Plans for a bigger and better Trades Day rodeo on Monday June 19 in Whitewright are led by Otto Russell and Burn Everheart. The free event features a new Brahma steer, milking contest with the wild blue cow, and a public auction by D A Ray. Horace F Thompson of Whitewright wed Minnie M Berry of McKinney Wednesday afternoon at the bride’s sister Mrs. W Y Bryant’s home in McKinney. The ceremony, led by Rev G C Ivins, took place before an altar of shasta daisies and ferns with Miss Mary Nell Bryant playing the wedding march. The couple, longtime acquaintances, will reside in Whitewright with a reception following the ceremony.
Leon Devenport and W R Hooper spent Tuesday in Jacksonville on business visits. They met with local contacts and discussed potential trade opportunities. The pair were noted by local business circles for their productive talks.
The Forty third Legislature moved to lower ad valorem tax to 57 cents but settled on 67 cents. Gov vetoed central mailing bureau bill citing costs outweighing benefits. He said the bureau would cost 7500 dollars yearly with no evident savings and noted departments already have porters to handle Capitol mail.
