Tickets will go on sale this weekend for the Showboat Minstrel to be presented June 29 and 30 in the school gymnasium here. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the show with as performers outstanding local talent. Proceeds benefit community betterment.
Whitewright Americans beat Tom Bean 4 to 0 with seven strikeouts by Carl Bailey and five by Kenneth Kemp. Tom Bean managed two hits and four errors while Bailey and Kemp led the defense and offense with key hits.
George C. Dugan 81 of Bells died yesterday in a Sherman hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 30 p m today in Bells with burial in Bells North Cemetery. He was born September 12 1879 in Bells and married Laura Adkins December 5 1905. Dugan toured the country as first clarinetist with the Ringling Bros Circus Band and served as band director in Grayson Fannin and Collin counties and led the Whitewright Brass Band in 1915. He is survived by his wife a daughter Mrs Fred Vinson of Calera Oklahoma four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Lester LaRoe uncle of Mrs. Ron Faison and brother of the late Ed and Lucian LaRoe of Whitewright died Sunday at his home in Leonard. Funeral and burial services were held at Leonard Monday. Survived by wife, a daughter Mrs Edward Southerland of Bonham, a son Lester LaRoe Jr. of St. Louis, two brothers Jack LaRoe of McKinney and Bert LaRoe of Lubbock, a sister Miss Rose LaRoe of Dallas, and five grandchildren.
James T. Edwards 79 a native of Whitewright died last week at his home 1582 N Broadway Escondido California Born November 11 1881 in Whitewright he married Anna Hooper in Dallas April 16 1912 He moved from Los Angeles to Escondido 18 months ago Survived by wife three daughters Mrs Margaret E Blount of Los Angeles Mrs Kathryn Mc Chesney of Denver Mrs Madge Woods of Dallas two sons James T Edwards Jr of Oklahoma City Harold H Edwards of Kansas City two brothers and three sisters including Mrs Pearl Edwards Carter of Dallas 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren
Jim Neighbors of Midland was named Southwestern Bell district manager in Denison, succeeding Jim Ashley who was promoted to Lubbock district manager. Neighbors previously served as district commercial superintendent at Midland and will oversee 26 towns including Denison Bells Savoy Pottsboro Whitewright Aubrey Gainesville Rockwall Royse City Wolfe City Allen Anna Celina Farmersville Frisco McKinney Princeton Prosper Atlanta Mt. Pleasant Omaha Pittsburg Honey Grove Ladonia and Paris, serving over 60,000 telephones.
John Biggerstaff postmaster, elected president of Texas Chapter 18 of the National Association of Postmasters at a Galveston convention. Officers were installed at a banquet with W Vernon Gill as principal speaker. Biggerstaff, former vice president, succeeds Frank Bell of Tyler and previously led the Grayson County Development Council.
A restraining order issued by 6th District Court last week to halt a Bonham pool hall operation was made permanent after a Wednesday hearing before Judge A M Harrison. County Attorney Tibby Wright filed the petition alleging violation of state statutes.
Governor Daniel appointed 19 officials from state agencies and professional groups to form the Texas Education and Welfare Committee to study the 350 million dollar funding problem. The panel will report before a July 10 special session and may add members. no general sales tax is planned.

He notes 14 million dollars per hour spent on weapons, 73 percent by the United States and Russia, and estimates vast global costs. American Telephone and Telegraph Co. buys an acre south of Whitewright from B. L. Sanderson to build a micro wave relay station. The tower will transmit tele vision and radio programs and telephone calls without wires. The local station mirrors three others destroyed by saboteurs in the Northwest weeks earlier.

Grayson College Ex-Students Association holds its annual reunion Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. program. Three applicants seek a $250 scholarship for descendants of Grayson alumni, with Janie Johnson of Dallas to report on fund use. The group aims to mechanize the college bell as a key project.
John G. Tower tops Blakley 448,450 to 437,958 in a Texas special Senate runoff tally. Tower led by 10,492 votes aided by large margins in Dallas, Bexar, Harris, and Tarrant counties, while Blakley carried 180 counties and most of East and Central Texas.
