In Edinburg County Clerk Oscar Kirkland explains a youth couple’s eligibility as a man claiming consent for his son and stepdaughter seeks a license. The clerk raises concern over the half-sister relationship, but the man argues both were born before their parents married, and the license is issued.
In Washington a bronze likeness of Will Rogers was unveiled in the Capitol’s statuary hall amid about 2000 attendees. The Oklahoma tribute was presented by Oklahoma officials and Mary McSpredden, Rogers’s sister, with Will Hays attending, Rogers depicted with his characteristic smile and tousled hair.
Bryce Twitty to head Group Hospitalization Inc starting Aug 1 on leave from Baylor hospital Dallas. Plan aims to provide hospitalization for a man and family for about $18 yearly with 317 state hospitals in the program. Baylor leads. state HQ to be in Dallas if funds raised. Houston already bids $25,000 for main offices.
Former Federal Circuit Judge Martin T. Manton was found guilty of conspiracy to obstruct justice and to deprive the U S of impartial services. George M. Spector also convicted. Kings County Judge George W. Martin acquitted of taking a $1,000 bribe to dismiss a Brooklyn abortion case. Spectators shouted as verdicts were read. Juries deliberated three hours. The report notes the New York City chamber of commerce history.
Newton Manning, three years principal of Whitewright Grammar School and former social science teacher at Whitewright High, was named high school principal by the Board of Education after Jim C. Jernigan resigned to head Pilot Point schools. Jernigan to finish his master’s at North Texas State. Lonnie Ricketts elected grammar school principal to replace Manning.
William B. Curts a 20 year old former UC student jailed in Stuttgart on charges of slandering Hitler and attacking the Reich after a poem satirizing the Nazi regime was beaten by tavern patrons who objected to his verse. Curts sent a grateful note to his Oakland guardian and a consul in Stuttgart confirmed the incident.
Shirley Temple stars in The Little Princess at the Palace tonight and Friday with Horton Johnsons expecting a large crowd. Other week features include Racketeers of the Range with George OBrien, Cafe Society with Madeleine Carroll Fred McMurray and Shirley Ross, and Pardon Our Nerve with Lynn Barr June Gale and Guvn Williams on bargain nights Tuesday and Wednesday.
