Public health efforts and bread enrichment programs led by bakers and millers have reduced pellagra across the southern United States. Dr Tom D Spies notes niacin deficiency as the cause and cites enrichment of bread with B vitamins and iron. A government survey notes 60 percent of niacin improvement from 1942 to 1948 due to enrichment.
Mrs. Bessie May Hodges of San Antonio, formerly attended school in Whitewright. He is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Journalism and is on the staff of the Houston Post. Miss Haynes is also a graduate of the University of Texas.

Buffington discussed school athletic programs and their community impact, introduced by Ralph Hester with secretary duties filled by B W Newman in Summers absence. Garner George a former Whitewright bank clerk now of Mercedes attended as Roy Blanton’s guest.

The engagement and approaching marriage of Cecil Ray Hodges and Miss Margaret Ann Haynes, both of Houston, has been announced. The ceremony is planned for July 2 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Houston. Hodges is the son of Mr. Hodges.

Albert Woolson 107, last Union Civil War veteran, lives in Duluth Minnesota frame house. Children from two nearby grade schools sent roses on Memorial Day in past years, but this year Mrs John Kobus Woolson’s daughter asked them to stay away. Woolson served as drummer boy and artilleryman at Chattanooga in 1864.
