J B Wear Jr of the Sherman U S Employment Service urges locals to enroll in free state federal war industry training schools. Courses include machine shop aircraft engine and sheet metal drafting and inspection with 6 to 12 week durations. Classes run 24 hours to accommodate workers with self support required. An enlisted man reported to the post hospital for frostbite treatment after holding dry ice in his hand to stay cool in heat over 100 degrees. The regimental surgeon treated the frostbitten hand and noted the cooling tactic. A separate home tip suggests adding salt to bath water to reduce perspiration.
The American Legion Auxiliary met in the auxiliary room with Mrs. W. L. Hatfield presiding. Dr Tom S Montgomery of Huntsville Texas, son of Ben Montgomery of Whitewright, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The notice from the AAAS secretary praises his standing as a scientist and promises an official certificate. Montgomery earned a Doctor of Education from the University of Texas in 1940 and joined Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1920, becoming head of the education department in 1924.
Farmers in the Sherman National Farm Loan Association and Grayson County National Farm Loan Association districts will save about 33 033 over the next two years due to kept 3 percent interest on long term Federal Land Bank loans through June 30 1944. The two associations report about 1 101 123 dollars in loans outstanding.
