Sam Goldwyn and John Rosenthall of Tyler announced a forthcoming oil test on about 6000 acres east of Whitewright. Drilling to start by August 21 on land near the German farm three miles east, with a 126 foot derrick and depth over 5000 feet. Several major firms back the project as a gas fueled operation with water piped in from miles away. The town watches the effort to a potential gusher or a duster.

OPA Revises Point Values On Butter Beverages And Veggies
The Office of Price Administration announced new ration point values for butter tomato juice and several frozen fruits and vegetables effective Sunday. Butter rises two points per pound canned tomato juice one point and berries from six to nine points per pound while frozen beans corn peas and spinach move from four to six points per pound. Frozen fruit juices drop from four to two points per pound. August blue stamps stay valid until Sept. 20. Shortening lard salad and cooking oils drop by one point to compensate. Margarine remains at four points. Red point values hold through Sept. 4.
