Committee Drafts Tax Overhaul Bill
A House Senate conference committee reached a compromise on a broad tax overhauls bill. It would reduce revenues by about 1.363 billion dollars next year and allow a 4 percent deduction on income from corporate dividends with the first 50 dollars of dividends excluded. The deal trims dividend relief to about 204 million dollars the first year and 363 million annually thereafter, aligning with a smaller exemption compared with House and Senate versions. The measure funds numerous reductions including medical expenses depreciation child care soil conservation and income for retirees while maintaining major tax rates.
