Motley of Paradise Magazine cited reduced business apprehension as proof that understanding the President's moderate policies clarifies the situation.
The National Safety Council reports in Accident Facts 1953 that 32,000 workers died off the job while 15,000 were killed on the job. The study notes off the job hazards as leading to fatalities.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar G Bow celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their rural home on Saturday with about 500 friends attending. The event featured lawn decorations, colored lights, and a refreshment table bearing a pot of gold scrolls recalling their July 16 1904 marriage in Trenton. The couple, natives of Texas and Kentucky respectively, have lived in the area since and are parents to Edgar Bow Henry A Red Bow and Mrs Dale Clower all nearby.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Janway age 74 are set for 3 p m at Earnheart Chapel with Rev Clayton Hicks and Rev Newton Cole. Burial will be City Cemetery. Survivors include a son Airman First Class William Janway in England and three daughters plus a stepson. She died Wednesday night after a long illness. Born April 20 1880 in Scott County Tennessee. She married P Janway in 1913 at Denison and lived here since. She was a Baptist.
O A Hefner aged 81 of Pilot Grove begins a full soil conservation plan with help from the Soil Conservation Service and district officials. John Wells says it is never too late to start and emphasizes a land improving effort over erosion.
Irene Hunter Grider aged 87 died July 13 at her daughter Susie Hartsfield’s home in Van Alstyne after a 14 month illness. Funeral Friday at Cannon Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Duckworth. burial in Cannon Cemetery. Born in Kentucky she moved to Grayson County 61 years ago and married John R. Grider in 1883. Survivors include Jim Grider Whitewright and several daughters sons grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in George A. Brewer Funeral Chapel Dallas for Reuben Wesley Phillips 45 who died Saturday in Dallas. Rev Charles Pitts of Highland Park Baptist Church led the rites. Burial followed at Restland Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, his parents Mr and Mrs D T Phillips of Trenton, and four sisters Mrs P A Autry of Plainview Mrs Alton McDowell of Whitewright Mrs E J Hawkins of Fort Worth and Mrs R D Butler of Trenton.
J J Cunningham father of Tom and Bill Cunningham former teachers in Whitewright died Monday in a Bonham hospital. Funeral services were held at Edhube Tuesday with burial in Hampton Cemetery directed by Earnheart Funeral Home. Survived by his wife and three sons Haise of Windom Bruce of Dallas and Joseph of Wichita Kansas.
Mr and Mrs Elbert Bennett were notified of the death at Davenport Iowa Saturday of their brother in law D M Harrison. Harrison was the father of Joan and Speedy Harrison who have spent much time with the Bennetts here. The iron and steel industry has cut its accident rate and now ranks as one of the safest industries. Financial panics in America occurred in 1837 1873 1893 and 1929.
S. T. Montgomery Jr. asks all boys 9 to 13 to meet at American Legion Park at 6 15 Friday to form daily teams from those who come. Mr Montgomery Clint Hennig Rev Harold Taylor and others will help set a flexible schedule. Players provide gloves. sponsors supply other equipment already on hand.
District Deputy Grand Master FE S McIntyre and five officers installed the Whitewright IOOF Lodge elective and appointed officers last Thursday. New officers included J E Smith noble grand C N Massey vice grand Homer Sanderson right supporter Claude Garner left supporter A B Jones conductor Obie Rutledge inside guardian John Jenkins outside guardian Marion Smith chaplain Ernest McCoy left supporter to the vice grand and Clifton Sanderson right supporter to the vice grand.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Everheart Thorn Hill Post American Legion officers were chosen for one year: Earl Fields post commander Elbert Bennett vice commander John Biggerstaff adjutant Claud Yowell sergeant at arms Roy Blanton finance officer and A B Jones service officer A chaplain will be elected later The post will offer its American Legion Home for local non profit group meetings free of charge A fall picnic is unlikely after the carnival company cancelled its contract causing the July picnic to be skipped.
The House defeated a double bill that would grant 500 000 postal workers a 5 percent raise while raising mail rates to cover the cost. The measure failed 228 to 171, 38 votes short of the two thirds required, as members voted for both bills together amid Democratic opposition.
i City Commission orders a $25 000 bond election for August 10 as wheat growers nationwide vote Friday on a marketing quota program for the 1955 crop. In Whitewright voting is at O K Feed Mill 8 a m to 7 p m. If two thirds approve quotas, they take effect.
The Whitewright City Commission ordered an August 10 election to issue 25 000 dollars in 30 year general obligation bonds to pay for city street improvements. The ballot asks to approve 25 000 dollars bonds with a tax to fund interest and redemption, rate not to exceed 4 percent, with possible redemption after 10 years. The election will be held at City Hall with three public posting sites and newspaper notices.
