Chicago reports the National Safety Council's Accident Facts shows 10 times as many men as women in fatal crashes. It notes 41,700 men and 4,100 women involved, and that men drink more, drive faster per driver, and travel more in all conditions, leaving no clear winner.

Dallas Fire Captain Leroy Moore warns that many homes overload circuits and use pennies to bypass fuses in hot weather. He notes radios lamps and a 3/4 ton air conditioner found on one socket, and says electrical motor fires rise in summer alongside grass fires.
