Parr Loses 56000 Acre Ranch to Duval County
Dist. Judge H D Burrow awarded a 56000 acre ranch to Duval County after a full day of hearings on a 1.4 million civil suit against George Parr and others. The case claimed the land was bought with county funds in 1945 and sought title and rental values over 11 years. Burrow ruled title to Parr bought land with county funds, effectively transferring ownership to the county. Parr testified he borrowed money from the county to buy the land, which the judge noted cannot be borrowed from a county.
