Farmer-Laborite elected Senator in Minnesota race
Final returns show Magnus Johnson the Farmer-Laborite winning the Minnesota United States Senate seat by more than 70,000 votes with a possible 75,000 margin. Johnson will join Henrik Shipstead, also a Farmer-Laborite, as they align with La Follette's followers in Congress. Johnson vows to help farmers and workers unite for better conditions and hints at a stance against the world court and League of Nations. He favors recognizing Russia and backs a soldiers bonus funded by excess profits. Republican Charles R. Adams cites unrest over economic conditions as a key factor in Gov. Preus's defeat.
