Passing of the Horse Trader
A first person reminiscence recounts a failed era of professional horse trading. The narrator cites shifting fortunes from automobiles and a doomed trade culture, recalls his own deception toward his wife about becoming a famed horse trader, and describes encounters with two blunt rivals in a public square who offered trade ploys and warned about risks. The tale blends humor with critique of a fading profession and a personal reform.
