Peace Resolution Signed by President Harding
Washington July 3 United States moved from a technical war to a technical peace with the signing of the Porter Knox resolution by President Harding. Officials say the act is largely psychological and will guide relations with Germany toward a prewar basis. A treaty of amity and commerce is favored by Senate members, while others push to adopt the Versailles treaty with objectionable clauses removed. Ambassadors and consuls await exchange, along with final settlement of German claims and property. Troop withdrawal from Germany remains undecided and tied to forthcoming treaty negotiations.
