Enraged by the murder of F B Davis 65 a storekeeper near Empire 800 citizens formed armed vigilantes sweeping Duncan Oklahoma area of high jackers gamblers and others Sheriff Mrs William M Cates ordered deputies but arrestees were held until authorities arrived The vigilante action cleaned the town with weapons fire a rooming house and a gambling joint damaged a still found and destroyed Davis was shot at least seven times with motive robbery as he carried about 400 He fought with a pistol knocked from his hand and bullets in his abdomen No arrests reported in lines about local oddities and ads continue after the crime including moonshine improvements and social notes
