Bailey Opens Campaign for Governor
Former Senator J. W. Bailey opened his gubernatorial campaign in Atlanta Texas addressing about 3500 farmers and women. He attacked union labor control of government opposing the eight hour day while proposing broad cuts in state spending and firing one third of office holders. He defended his congressional record, claimed to be labor’s ally when appropriate, and warned that unions would destroy government if they win full control. He noted women’s opposition in primaries and pledged to serve if elected and to abide the result otherwise. He left for Washington to complete a lawsuit and planned more speeches later.
