Texas Called Sucker Not to Tax Resources
Dallas businessman Dee Humphrey urged Congress to tax natural gas exports at 10 cents per 1000 cubic feet to raise 10 million dollars annually and win goodwill with Midwestern states. He argued Texas gas undercuts coal regions, damages freight lines, and advocated conserving gas for future generations plus shifting oil taxation to pipelines to fund pensions and avoid tax hikes.

Expert Visions Bigger Cotton Demand in '39
New Orleans reports cotton farmers and merchants look to 1939 with less sunshine and lower per acre yields but higher both foreign and domestic demand to retrieve Southern farmers from the 1929 downturn. I V Shannon notes 13.6 million bales surplus flooded 1938 prices, while L H Weston forecasts 78 percent normal sunshine for 1939, potentially reducing output below 1938 and 1937 levels. Demand improves, reshaping the cotton outlook as natural and trade forces may replace Congress. Cleveland library exhibit features a peach-stone carving of a Chinese boat from 1936.
