Officer Orr Recovers Rifle in Whitewright Theft

Whitewright Chief LeRoy Duquette said Officer Joe Orr recovered a 22 caliber rifle stolen from Orville Woodson’s truck parked by Meador Inc. on Jan. 3. No suspects named and no charges filed. Also named All-State is Tiger QB Steve Hodge, with teammates Walter Daniels and Ricky Di Rice on the second team. Hodge led a 10-0 regular season to regional playoffs and remains a varsity multi-sport athlete with college football aims.

Hollingsworth Held as Bank Robbery Suspect in Saint Jo

Murrell L. Hollingsworth, a Whitewright native likely living with his mother, is held in Wichita County jail on $50,000 bond as a suspect in the January 7 Saint Jo First National Bank robbery. He allegedly entered the bank twice wearing a ski mask, obtained $2,100, and fled by pickup. police later stopped the vehicle and arrested him. The case also notes local acquaintances’ vague knowledge of Hollingsworth amid mixed residency reports. Also reported: Marine Lance Corporal Curtis W. Bodkins, son of Bells residents, promoted at Cherry Point NC. Funeral services for Allene Graham held in Bells with burial in North Cemetery. Survivors listed.

Coach Kline Optimistic About the 1977 Tigers

Whitewright Rotarians heard Coach Mark Kline praise the 1977 Whitewright Tigers as potential best in school history. With an 18-1 record, 14 straight wins, and 6-0 in district play, the team leads early district standings as Coppell, Farmersville, and Colbert loom as playoff threats. The Tigers boast four seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores, led by Steve Hodge 18.2 PPG and Walter Daniel 15.0 PPG, with strong defense from Stan Smith and solid rebounding.

Tax collector warns Whitewright ISD ad valorem tax due

Petty Rittman, tax assessor collector, announces this week that to avoid penalties interest and costs on 1976 ad valorem tax for Whitewright Independent School District must be paid by January 31 1977. Beginning February 1 1977 the added cost rises to about 16 3/4 percent and on March 1st to about 18 1/2 percent with monthly increases thereafter. January payments sent by mail must be postmarked January.

Presley Auto Parts plans a grand opening Saturday January 22 from 8 to 5 in downtown Whitewright at the moved next door location. Owner Larry Presley invites all to visit the rebuilt building with refreshments and door prizes. Lois Tracy Named Manager At Melton's Thrif-Tee

Eddie Melton owner of Melton's Thrif-Tee grocery in Whitewright announced Lois Tracy as manager. Tracy, former Denison resident now living in Orangeville, has two daughters and five grandchildren. Maggie Ball and Steve Bollier assist. Jerry Melton helped prep. Dallas meat supervisor to work in meat market. hours 8 to 6, six days a week.
