Charles Truksa offers a reward for his white with black spots wire haired fox terrier Micki missing since Thursday from the Whitewright home. She stands 13 inches at the shoulder, tan head. Call First National Bank of Whitewright or home at 364-2077 with information.
Six Flags and Show Productions announce auditions at Inn of the Six Flags Arlington on Sunday January 16 for singers dancers comedians and impersonators for 1977 Six Flags Over Texas shows. Open to ages 16 and up with 3 minute limit. Registration at 10:00 a.m. auditions start 11:00 a.m. Bring accompaniment music.
Whitewright remains unbeaten with a 69-37 district win over Honey Grove on the Honey Grove homecourt. Willie Ballard scored 24 and Steve Hodge 18 as Whitewright led 37-18 at halftime. Ted Ellis and Charles Philfer added eight each for Honey Grove. In girls action Honey Grove beat Whitewright 52-44, Ray Billings scoring 27 before fouling out, Annette Orr 20 and Sonja Weeks 12 for the Tigerettes.
Whitewright Rotary paused to honor Rotarian Joe Johnson who died unexpectedly about a week earlier. Bill McFatridge lauded his service above self and noted his Paul Harris Fellow award. Richard Howell showed slides on A Story of Service while Merrell Dickson announced February Ladies Night plans. Maggie Ball returned from trips to San Diego Las Vegas Boulder Dam Albuquerque and Lubbock.
Whitewright club members from several groups gathered for the Grayson County Federation of Women's Clubs fall meeting. Linda Sullivan presided the welcome address. Attendees included Nevada Garner Beulah McLain Beatrice Hunter Edith Grider O A Bennett Lillian Neathery Vera Wetzel Adelle Ireland and Pansy Miller. Special entertainment featured the Sim Family Singers and Dr John E Hartsell presented a program titled With you in Mind.
Milton Simpson engineering assistant at Community Public Service Co was nominated as chamber president at the Whitewright luncheon meeting. Other officers named were Darla Howell vice president Earline Rice secretary Anne Logan treasurer. A banquet committee was formed with Priscille Riker chairing music and a blood drive proposed for Cody Tucker with Parkland Hospital ready to send a bloodmobile on Feb 18 if 50 donors are secured.
Joe Reeves celebrated his 96th birthday with a Dec 18 dinner. Known as Uncle Joe, he farmed near Whitewright for decades and helped others, a Bethel Baptist charter member. He married Mable Freeman Reeves in 1906. she died in 1968. Now at Whitewright Nursing Home, he was joined by eight children and numerous relatives from Sherman, Beaumont, Merkle, Anson, Tom Bean, Savoy, Howe, Garland, Carrollton, and Plano.
Dan Le Dane, worshipful master, announced two White Wright Masonic Lodge meetings. A called session at 7 30 p m Saturday January 15 aims to confer the Entered Apprentice degree. A 7 30 p m Monday January 17 meeting will feature Robert L Tolbert Sherman District Deputy Grand Master of the Fourth Masonic District of Texas.
Pansy Miller reports on a 200 Club meeting with thanks to Mr and Mrs Leon Bennett for an electric heater during a gas line repair. Beatrice Hunter presided and a quilt project was proposed. The regular Thursday meeting time shifted from 7 to 6 30 P M and attendees included Marian McMillin and numerous club members.
Ray Roberts chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee completed an inspection tour of American memorial cemeteries in England France Belgium Luxembourg and Germany. He toured Normandy Brittany Flanders Field Anciennes Bas togne and Henri Chappel noting their beauty care and significance to veterans and Europeans.
