Grade Crossing Elimination To Be Relief Move

Washington advances a half billion dollar grade crossing elimination program as a key relief effort. Plans for removing 5 000 crossings are detailed by railroad engineers and funds may come from a four billion dollar appropriation. Officials say it would create quick work and could be self liquidating. Ickes notes potential motorist and railroad taxation to repay costs.
