Mr and Mrs J L Cantrell marked fifty years of marriage with a quiet celebration at home. Married January 13 1892 in Van Alstyne they lived in Tom Bean and Whitewright where Cantrell held roles as gun dealer city marshal grain and cotton businessman and later justice of peace. Born in 1864 and 1871 they raised children including Sgt T S Cantrell and others across Oklahoma Texas and Florida.

Fannin Resident Granted New Trial in Slaying Case
Earl T. Brewer of Fannin County who faced a 99 year murder sentence was granted a new trial by the Court of Criminal Appeals and released on an appearance bond. He had been convicted for the stabbing death of Glen Cox at an apartment house here. Cox had eloped with Brewer's 14 year old daughter. The slaying occurred in Fort Worth. Brewer's release came one year to the day after the incident.
