Tilted Floors Boost Pig Survival and Output
The Agriculture Department cites a Kentucky farmer’s slanted farrowing floor as key. Pigs avoid being crushed as sows lie on the high side, reducing piglet losses. Other farmers report saving about 2 more pigs per litter on slanted floors, prompting widespread trial. Feathers evolving from reptilian scales is noted, alongside about 1,000 conscientious objectors remaining in federal prison more than a year after World War II.
