Whitewright Riding Club Wins Top Award at Ross Downs
Whitewright Riding Club of 17 members won the overall Club Relay Race championship at Ross Downs near Fort Worth on New Year’s Day, finishing with a best time of four minutes and 19 seconds in a field of 18 teams. The event included 18 races with 13 members per race and featured clubs from Fort Worth and Arlington. The club’s success followed by a 1971 All Sports Banquet announcement and notes on a Whitewright High School 1960 class reunion.

Whitewright School District to replace teachers at mid term
Superintendent Sam Montgomery announced two teachers will leave the Whitewright School System at mid term. Mrs Bertis Hodge retires after 40 years of teaching, to be replaced by Mrs Howard Hodge Jr who earned an Elementary Education degree from East Texas State University Commerce. James Taylor resigns as math instructor effective mid term, and Richard Reedy of Whitesboro is elected to finish the year. Both new teachers begin duties January 18 1971.

Measles Outbreak Prompts School Immunization Push

Whitewright Chamber Meets for Breakfast and Business
The Whitewright Chamber of Commerce met at Firemen's Hall for a breakfast and business session Wednesday morning. Attendees included Tom Brookshear, Bob Cayce, Clint Henneiy, Bo Pettit, Bill McFatridge, Floyd Bassett, and others. President Brookshear reported on freight service into Whitewright and the chamber treasury, and discussed possible United Funds for community building insurance premiums. The meeting adjourned at 7 40 a.m.
