On December 31 1945 at the Groves farm near Whitewright as many as twenty one tractors prepared terraces and worked the fields to aid Dorsey Brooks who has been ill neighbors from up to eight miles brought equipment and labor in a single day with a festive meal in the Brooks kitchen highlighting communal farm hospitality and mutual aid. The effort included a lengthy list of volunteers who contributed tractors fieldwork or kitchen support.

First National Bank Declares 20 Percent Dividend
At a directors meeting the First National Bank declared a 20 percent dividend on capital stock. The bank’s capital is now 50 000 with deposits over 1 450 000. Its capital structure totals 150 000 comprising capital 50 000 surplus 50 000 and contingencies reserve 50 000. Checks totaling 10 000 were mailed December 31 to stockholders. The bank, in its fifty fifth year, reported good business in 1945 with a rise in deposits despite crop shortages.
