Whitewright and surrounding areas endured 6.73 inches of rainfall in a week with 2.43 inches by Thursday morning and 1.80 inches that day. Snow plus rain added 0.26 inch, boosting February totals. Floods damaged oats, terraces failed, roads and bridges washed out, and mail routes and school buses disrupted.
Applications for emergency crop and feed loans for 1938 are being received in Grayson County at the county agent's office in Sherman. Loans are limited to farmers unable to obtain credit elsewhere and to immediate cash needs for crops or livestock feed, with a maximum of 400 dollars secured by a first lien on the financed crop or on the livestock.
College Station reports the new farm bill authorizes cotton marketing quotas based on acreage under the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938. It sets a national allotment near 10.75 million bales for 1938 with state and county divisions, minimum farm allotments, penalties for overplanting, and adjusted loan provisions for cooperators and lenders, excluding long staple cotton.
The Agriculture Department asked cotton and tobacco farmers to vote on marketing quotas under the 1938 act. On March 12 counties will hold secret ballots to decide limits of 10 million cotton bales and 850 million pounds of tobacco across two types. Two-thirds of growers must approve for quotas to take effect.
At a Blue Ridge meeting fifty three farmers signed up to plant about fifteen hundred acres to the Watson Mebane cotton variety. Officials expect many more acres to sign up before planting begins.

State fire insurance commissioner Marvin Hall announced Whitewright faces a 15 percent bad fire record penalty on city wide fire insurance. Glen Earnheart of Trenton announces plans to establish a Whitewright funeral home next month. He will lease the Bryant building beside T. W. Ayres & Son, remodel interiors, and stock a full line of undertaking goods. Earnheart, a licensed embalmer in business 18 years, aims for a mid month opening.
County agent W. O. Teddlie warns farmers to complete and sign 1937 worksheets by March 4 to avoid a forced quota based on the Bankhead allotment. Committeemen will sign for absent farmers to ensure Grayson County receives a fair 1938 allotment under the new program.
