The city’s official gauge recorded 4.01 inches of rainfall from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday, with 0.42 inches fall before 4 p.m. and 3.59 afterward. Week total 4.30 inches. February total 4.30. The downpour damaged Whitewright streets, washed gravel, and swept topsoil from fields, threatening ongoing oat sowing.
President Roosevelt said the nation's price structure remains too low while individual commodity prices like copper should not rise too rapidly. He noted his 1933 stance on price warding and said a government expert panel will issue a detailed price study Friday. Morgenthau discussed commodity prices with Treasury staff as the administration unveiled a gold sterilization policy boosting potential credit by 2.8 billion dollars.
A large crowd attended the Boy Scout service at the Methodist Church Sunday night as city churches closed their evening services for the union event. Rev. Leslie O. County Agent W O Teddlie urged all producers who did not sign a 1937 work sheet to visit the county agent's office immediately. He warned there would be no subsidy payment to farmers who failed to sign.
Hugh B. Moyer 40 editor of the Honey Grove Signal Citizen died at home after a stroke following ten weeks in Paris hospital. A World War veteran and former mayor 1934 1936 he also served as city commissioner 1937 and held numerous community roles. He is survived by his mother and sister. Funeral is Friday at 3 p.m.

Rear Admiral Cary T. Grayson longtime chairman of the American Red Cross and confidant to Presidents Roosevelt Taft Wilson died at his Washington residence after a sinus infection. He was 59 and survived by his wife Alice and three sons.
Washington explains the new farm bill in questions and answers detailing crop controls for wheat corn tobacco cotton and rice. It covers quotas payments loans insurance penalties and the aim to restore relative income to 1909-14 levels while keeping production flexible and expanding research.
Mrs Ruth Bryan Owen daughter of the late William Jennings Bryan will speak in Sherman Sunday March 6 at 3 p m under the auspices of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Grayson County The club plans a nationally known speaker each year and Miss Owen the only woman to represent the United States Government in a foreign country Several from Whitewright are expected to attend the lecture.
The State Game Department announced in its monthly bulletin that it endorses crow extermination. It says the department cannot advocate unfettered destruction of all predatory birds and notes that many hawks are more beneficial than harmful.
The Third Sunday Singing Convention will meet at Bethel Baptist Church south of Whitewright next Sunday at 2 PM. Several quartets are to participate. J. P. Autrey announced five gallons of gasoline awarded to the quartet traveling the farthest distance to attend.
John Mollers, 17, found 1100 dollars in negotiable bonds in Chicago and returned them to Mrs. Gertrude Morrow, declining a $10 reward, citing his Boy Scout oath to help others at all times.

Ralph Yeakley was elected president of the Grayson County unit of the Texas State Teachers Association at Sherman High School auditorium. George P. Mecham and Byron Davis were named first and second vice presidents, with Mrs. J. J. Umphress as secretary and J. N. Hollingsworth as treasurer. Delegates to the Denton district meeting in March include Yeakley and others from Denison Sherman Gainesville Bells and Collinsville.
James Abner Mealor 32, painter's helper on the new city building and auditorium, was found dead early Tuesday slumped over the wheel of his wrecked car in East Sherman at a street intersection with a Frisco freight train. His car struck the train. Mealor resided at Bells before moving to Sherman.
R. R. Waldo announces retirement from furniture dealing and sells stock as he plans a Sherman funeral home. He will relocate his family after construction and stay in Whitewright with Roger Holcomb taking charge of the surviving undertaking business. Holcomb, long associated with Waldo's shop, gains a financial stake and expands his own enterprise in Whitewright.
A toll free road bridge across Red River at Carpenter's Bluff near Denison will open after the Kansas Oklahoma and Gulf railroad vehicle attachment is transferred to the State for 25 years. The move aims to boost trade from Oklahoma into Denison as upkeep costs shift to precinct funds and local volunteers raise money to refloat the span.
Deputy Marvin Templeton of the Grayson County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office died in a Sherman hospital after a head on collision north of Sherman ten days earlier. He rode with Sherman area couple Mr. and Mrs. Collier Yeary when their car collided with a Dension man’s vehicle. Templeton was the half-brother of Mrs. H. C. Willis of Whitewright.
In Greenville a 13 year old black boy died during a hide and seek game after climbing a tree and grabbing a live electric wire. Firemen freed the body from the tree as electrical service was interrupted for about fifteen minutes.
President Roosevelt signed the farm surplus control bill promising rapid implementation and urging spring plantings to operate under the new law. He noted most changes are cost neutral except parity payments, and Secretary Wallace called it a landmark farm measure.
Secretary Wallace announced a 1938 cotton production goal of 10.75 million bales under the crop control act, with a referendum within thirty days to approve marketing quotas. A national acreage allotment of 26 to 26.5 million acres will be set, with penalties of 2 cents per pound for excess production and eligibility for soil conservation payments only for within allotments.
Elmer Gage Goodspeed, 91, marries Margaret Johnson, 55, in Munice Indiana then collects a fresh old age pension. He has had two prior wives. the first divorced in 1930 and the second died two years ago. The bride says they planned the marriage carefully.
