Victory garden classes run in Whitewright and Kentuckytown under Food For Freedom. Men and women interested in growing vegetables invited. First meetings held Tuesday with directors and times listed. Ten sessions planned plus pruning reminder from R B Cruse.
The Office of Price Administration ordered a nationwide freeze on canned meat and fish sales effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday to conserve supplies ahead of rationing. Exemptions include certain non sealed items, pharmaceuticals, and some prepared foods. wholesalers must report inventories within fifteen days.
Whitewright policyholders will receive a 20 percent fire record credit on premiums for 12 months starting March 1, announced by State Fire Insurance Commissioner Marvin Hall. As president of the Parent Teacher Association I thank mothers for helping in the Grammar School lunch room. With 175 to 200 pupils served daily three paid workers are not enough. Mrs Garner chairs the lunch room and two mothers could manage the lunch as usual. We hope to enlist more volunteers so one day a week may suffice. If you can help please send your name.
AUSTIN. State health officer Dr George W Cox urged strenuous efforts to control whooping cough after a steady two month rise. He said isolation of cases must be universally practiced and explained the germ spreads via droplets from coughing sneezing or speaking with nasal and throat discharges remaining dangerous.
Alvin J. Steinkopf, AP correspondent, told Inland Daily Press Association that Allied forces can topple Italy in 1943 but will not crack the European fortress and defeat Germany before 1944. He cited the German armies’ strength and the need for sustained effort.
The Agriculture Department reports the first large scale U S guayule rubber harvest is underway in California. Several hundred tons are being extracted from guayule shrubs in the Salinas Valley as part of nationwide guayule operations spanning California and the Southwest.
