Amid a Texas flu surge, Whitewright schools report light absenteeism with 83 absent on Wednesday and 61 on Friday, while old-age patients suffer more severe after effects. The piece notes a dust storm in West Texas and property damage from high winds.

S Hurschel Murphy 69 was found dead in bed at his Whitewright area home. Funeral services were set for 2 30 PM at Barnhart Funeral Chapel led by Rev J W Harper and Rev H B Fuller. Burial in Wittitoe Cemetery Ken tuckytown. He was born April 25 1890 in Kentucky and married Edna Marshall in 1908. Survivors include his wife four daughters two sons a brother three sisters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. W. H. Askew aged 77 died Monday at 3 45 a m at her daughter Mrs. George Brown’s home in Whitewright. Funeral services were held at De Kalb on Tuesday conducted by Rev. Joe Denton of Savoy. She was born January 4 1883 in Monroe Louisiana and moved to Texas with her parents as an infant. Surviving are son E. T. Askew of DeKalb daughter Mrs. George Brown of Whitewright sister Mrs. W. T. Cooper of Texarkana three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 30 p m Monday in the First Baptist Church Tom Bean for Mrs Dora Beatrice Jared 61 who died Sunday morning in a Sherman hospital Burial followed at Wittitee Cemetery She was born Navy 17 1899 in Tom Bean daughter of Mrs Decia Pannell and the late J A Pannell She was a member of the Baptist Church Survivors include two daughters Mrs H L King of Wichita Kan and Mrs Herbert Ott of San Antonio her mother three sisters and two brothers and five grandchildren
Raymond F. Lewis son in law of Mr and Mrs J E Smith of Whitewright died February 3 in Berkeley California and was buried February 6 at Sunset View Cemetery Oakland He was from Washington State husband of Johnnie Ruth Smith and a member of the Missionary Full Gospel Association of Los Angeles Teamster Union Local 70 and the Alameda Naval Reserve Surviving are his wife a step daughter Mrs Sarah Jane Martinez two step sons Paul E Byrum and Richard Lewis all of Oakland five brothers and four sisters
Bruce Hinton 71 native of Whitewright died January 28 in Stockton California. He was born April 10 1888 son of C C and Mrs Hinton. Survived by wife four children sister Beulah Bailey of Denison and brother John D Hinton of Freedom Okla. More than 10 million homes in US are 50 years old and 25 million are 80 years old.
Mrs. Leonard Collins of Sherman announces a countywide TB case finding program with skin tests on Feb 22 23 in Howe Van Alstyne Tom Bean and other towns and a Feb 25 result reading. Three new TB cases were found amid a flu epidemic including a 70 year old man detected after influenza illness.
The Whitewright PTA held its regular meeting in the high school building Tuesday at 7 30 p m. A tie in room count occurred between the third and sixth grades. Mrs David Johnson directed a musical program enjoyed by all. The March meeting will be the third with open house for National Education Week and the public is invited.
Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show to erect a 46 by 135 foot building at Log Lake headquarters. Bob McAfee announced after a Sherman board meeting. The barn will serve swine and sheep exhibitors and support an overnight spring show. Donations funded steel framing and mounting poles. Whitesboro FFA donated poles and received life membership. New 1960 officers were nominated for a mail ballot with a member meeting planned.
