Gas Chamber Craze Sweeping Prisons
The lethal gas chamber used since the 1930s is spreading to new states, with Mississippi the eighth to purchase from Eaton Metal Products. Colorado pioneered the all steel and glass design in 1933, while Maryland may be next. The chamber, hexagonal and eight by fourteen feet, uses cyanide pellets released into acid to kill within seconds, and requires two operators plus Eaton supervision.
