Washington notes that refunding talks for the 11 billion dollar debt owed by foreign nations to the United States will begin soon. Treasury officials say no exact date exists, but debts likely to be tackled in order of size, starting with Britain followed by France, Italy, Belgium, and smaller nations.
Greenville reports Joseph F. Nichols renomination as mayor in a Democratic primary with over 2300 votes, the largest in the city’s history. H L McLow and C G Wilson were renominated for commissioners amid rain and slush as women polling taxes matched male voters in turnout.
R. C. Brown attended a meeting of the commanders of North Texas American Legion Posts in Dallas last Sunday. The session aimed to improve cooperation between the Legion and government departments handling ex service men. Several government office representatives were present.
Sherman readers learned a verdict in favor of Mrs. Rowena Coover Bobbitt against I. R. Bobbitt for 100000 in damages. The award split into 60000 actual 20000 exemplary and 20000 for failure to remarry after common law husband status. Furniture and a fine automobile awarded. Sherman February 7 authorities announce immediate action against motorists lacking 1922 motor licenses. Sheriff Boyd Craig's deputies will arrest drivers without valid registrations. Grayson County reports about 7,500 cars in 1921 with far fewer registered this year and a delinquent 25 percent fee applied to registrations after February 1.
Rome February 6 Cardinal Achille Ratti archbishop of Milan was proclaimed elected Pope after the seventh ballot and chose the name Pius XI. He accepted the election saying it is the will of God. Crowds cheered as smoke signaled the vote and he was hailed in St Peter's Square.
Mrs. Mattie Rucker aged 70 died from burns after her clothes caught fire from an open gas heater at her Sherman home. She was alone when found unconscious by her daughter Mrs. K S Loving. she died without regaining consciousness. Survived by daughters Mrs. C C Andrews Celina. Mrs. J F Myers El Paso. Mrs. K S Loving Sherman. son Jess Rucker Dallas.
