Boy Scout Week runs Feb 7 to 13 nationwide with the 54th anniversary of scouting. In Whitewright the Sherman Area Council serves 18 units in Grayson County including Pack 5 Pack 12 Troops 42 18 and Post 7. In 1963 these five units served 102 boys and officials aim to grow participation in 1964.
G D Bennett seeks election as Justice of the Peace, Precinct No 3 in Grayson County. He cites prior experience as precinct constable and work with Justice Court in Fannin County and asks for voters support and the vote.
The Whitewright Independent School District Board ordered a school trustee election for April 4. Incumbents Dick Walker and Wallace Wilson will seek re election. Also reelected for two year terms were David Johnson and Randall Jones. A new bus and chassis were purchased for next fall. The board recommended limiting the senior trip to two days starting Friday to Saturday.
Whitewright mayor Russell R. Summers seeks another term in the April 7 city election. Elected in 1950 after F. M. Echols, Summers has won re elections largely without opposition, defeating Renee Morgan 303 to 97 two years ago.
Funeral services were held in Sherman for Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Fuller 79 who died Saturday in a Sherman nursing home after a two year illness. Burial was in Memorial Park. She was born December 17 1884 in Kentuckytown daughter of Mr and Mrs R K Smith. She married Don C Fuller in 1913. Surviving are a son Don C Fuller Jr a daughter Hartley Hutt two brothers Frank A Smith and Charles Smith a granddaughter Mrs Don Williams and a great grandchild.
Mrs J A Pannell 91 longtime Tom Bean resident died Sunday in Sherman Funeral services were held in Tom Bean and she is survived by two sons J O Pannell Denton and J J Pannell Fort Worth three daughters Carl Hartwig Fort Worth W E Maddox Coolidge Ariz and B M Dean Tom Bean a brother B M Williams Portales N M a sister E A Mitchell Whitewright 15 grandchildren and five great great grandchildren born April 11 1872 at Crockett and moved to White Mound in 1877 married Nov 2 1890 in Tom Bean
Funeral services for William C. Lewis 49 were held at 2 p m at Pilot Grove Baptist Church after he was found dead in his car on a road near Pilot Grove Tuesday. Burial followed in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Lewis born September 28, 1914 in Pilot Grove leaves wife, one son Donnie Ray, three daughters, six sisters and one brother.
A wife notes a dinner guest, asking if he is married. The husband, puzzled, replies he does not know. The wife adds the man is reserved and keeps troubles to himself.
The Sun reports a legal notice on Whitewright proposing 70000 in 50 year general revenue bonds for water system upgrades, City Hall remodeling, and street improvements. Of the total 66000 funds are for water 10000 for City Hall 28000 for streets and 4000 for engineering and fees. The commission raised water rates last year to fund drilling and equipping another well.
College Station experts say the Consumer Price Index will be revised to reflect changing spending patterns since 1952. Food will have less influence. the index measures price changes, not overall cost of living, and will better track trends such as diet shifts or family events.
The Canal Zone houses more than 36,000 Americans. It includes 9,750 military personnel, 11,800 military dependents, 1,380 U S civilian employees, and 2,525 civilian dependents. An additional 10,700 civilians and dependents work for the Panama Canal Company and Canal Zone government.
