Deaths George Bennett former Whitewright officer dies at 91
George Bennett, 92, longtime Whitewright lawman, died Friday in a Sherman hospital. Born June 19, 1884 in Greensburg Kentucky, he served as constable, city marshal and justice of the peace. Survived by two sons Leon and Elbert, two daughters Mrs. Hugh Hunter and Mrs. Velma Russey, and 25 grandchildren. Services Sunday at Earnheart Funeral Chapel officiated by Dr. Douglas Rymer and Bill Baker. Burial in City Cemetery. Interment in Whitewright Baptist contexts noted.

William Rogan. She was born in Whitewright to D.S. and Sissie Carr and married Mark Montgomery on Oct 12 1909 in Sherman. She was a Presbyterian.

New Play Items Highlight Whitewright PTO Support
Supt Dick Capps thanks the Whitewright PTO for 72-73 and 73-74 fundraising that supplied about 2500 dollars of playground gear for the new elementary school. Equipment includes a merry go round slide see saw giant stride softball bats and balls kick balls volleyball basketballs and jump ropes. LaVerle Mathis and W J May led the PTO during the funding years, and students are enjoying recess thanks to their efforts.

Beta Trio Wins First At State Talent Show
Whitewright High School girls Kay Geers Brenda Thornhill and Julie Johnson won first in the State Beta Convention talent division at the Fort Worth Sheraton. The trio sang a patriotic medley before about 2000 in a standing ovation. They also won the same honor in 1975 in Dallas and receive a $25 annual Beta club credit. They were accompanied by Mrs. David Johnson and will appear on Channel 12 Telethon for Wilson N. Jones Hospital.

Council Sets City Elections
The city plans an April 3 election for mayor and two council seats with a March 3 filing deadline. Absentee voting runs March 12 to March 30 at city hall. Mayor Dick Walker and Councilman Byrd Burchfield serve unexpired terms expiring this year. A vacancy from Bill Pearce's move will be filled. Polls open 7 am to 7 pm at Fireman's Hall. The council also approved a gasoline storage tank and pump for city vehicles.
