Fatal injury after suspect fatally struck in Altus chase

A new policy of spreading payments aims to ease treasurer’s workload after mail delays last month. December payments used two checks due to a borrowed state share and a Dallas bank loan with Federal match money. Carpenter expected Social Security Board approval around January 10 for a quarterly grant of 2,677,000 dollars, based on 100,000 cases at 17 dollars monthly, likely staying under that total as reinvestigation trims rolls. December checks went to about 92,000 recipients. The quarterly funds come from the Social Security Act. Texas had historically paid monthly due to roll-growth uncertainty.

Six Persons Injured In Crash Near Here
A head-on collision Thursday at 6 p m on highway 160 three miles north of Whitewright injured six occupants. Mr and Mrs J D Fuqua and two sons Glenn and Lewis of Sherman suffered cuts and bruises but were not seriously hurt. J F Smart and son E F Smart of Quitman were taken to Sherman hospital then to the home of R E Krueger in Sherman. A driver said a car swerved to avoid a vehicle on a side road and collided head-on. Both cars were wrecked and brought to a local garage.
