City Schools Dismiss For Holidays This Week

Public schools will dismiss Friday afternoon for the holidays and resume on December 31. It is decided to reopen Monday without observing January 1 as a holiday to complete a full week of instruction.

Methodist Stewards Eat Turkey Dinner

Rev. W. A. Stuckey leads Methodist Church stewards in rotatory socials to foster fellowship. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Sears hosted the first social at their South Bend street home with a three course turkey dinner and entertainment. Plates were laid for the pastor and a list of stewards, and the hosts received thanks for starting the series in a complete and delightful manner.

Whitewright High School Gains Southern Association Accreditation

Superintendent H L Durham announces Whitewright High School has been placed on the accredited list of the Southern Association of Colleges. Graduates may enter Harvard Yale Princeton and other universities without examination. Among 590 Texas state affiliated schools only about sixty share this recognition. North Texas peers include Bonham Denison Farmersville McKinney Greenville Denton Gainesville and Whitewright.

Rural carriers to observe Christmas Day holiday this year

The Postmaster General has ruled that rural letter carriers will have Christmas Day as a holiday this year. Previously they worked their routes on Christmas Day, but now they will have a day off. Mrs. G L Baugher of Dallas is visiting relatives here.

Orbin Blanton Ranks Third in Austin College Honor List

Orbin Blanton of Whitewright ranks third in the senior class for the first quarter at Austin College with an 88.8 average. He entered in 1917 and has taught in Whitewright schools two years since. He qualified for the Davis Foote Eagleton Scholarship Society and will graduate with the Diamond Jubilee Class next June.

Bakery Opens Under McKinney Supervisors

The new bakery opened this week under the supervision of J. T. Roberts and C. W. Magers of McKinney, was thoroughly overhauled and put in a clean and sanitary condition before starting operations. White Wright needs a bakery, but can only maintain one by giving it undivided support. If the bakery does its part, let's do ours.

Big Crowd Expected Saturday For $65 Distribution Plan

The Chamber of Commerce plans a $65 gift distribution next Saturday with eighty five prizes ranging from $5 to 25 cents. Cards with denominations will be handed to the crowd and cashed at stores, with farmers inspecting cards to ensure fair splits. Participants will be grouped by gender and age to share in the prizes during a wagon sale on the streets at 2:30 p.m. Dec 22.

Committee Named Five Investigate Mayfield Charges

A five member sub committee of the Senate elections committee was appointed to investigate charges of excessive election expenditures against Senator Mayfield Democrat Texas by George E B Peddy of Houston. The inquiry will begin after the holidays following Senate approval of a resolution authorizing the investigation. Chairman Spencer said the resolution would follow the Newberry form and would make no reference to the Ku Klux Klan.
