T J Smith a longtime Whitewright citizen and grocer and later hardware salesman died suddenly at his East Grand Avenue home on December 12 1918 aged 64 He was born March 15 1854 in Fort Jessup Louisiana and married Josie Pye Survived by wife two sisters and a brother and adopted daughter Bascom Sears of Whitewright He joined the Methodist church forty years ago and was president of the church board The funeral was held Friday at 2 pm at his home with Oak Hill cemetery interment ministers from three churches present.
Bryan Webber is among the soldiers who have been mustered out and is returning home after completing radio school in Newport News. He arrived Thursday of this week.
The Dallas county hog club promoted by Security National Bank of Dallas received a large share of prize hogs from Whitewright. The bank bought 250 head of registered hogs for raisers, with 40 from Whitewright shipped by T. H. Lively J. R. Oliver Dee German and Don Wallace. Gilts included Poland China and Duroc Jersey breeds, all selling at fancy prices. An express car was prepared for shipment last Thursday.
Mrs J W Woods of Whitewright received a wartime letter from E C Whitall Army Reserve Corps Chaplain France dated Nov 16 stating her son Jeff D Woods lost his right arm and will learn to use his left at home. He is in hospital receiving care and luxuries and remains hopeful about his recovery.

F R McFatridge came in Saturday from East Texas where he has sold cotton seed. He reports his work for the season nearly finished. Awaited in the mails were two Liberty bonds purchased by his son Norman now serving in France. One bond is for 100 dollars and the other for 50 dollars. The thrift shown by the young private stands out.
Oscar Ryan arrived in Whitewright Thursday night after learning of his brother H. M. Ryan’s death and interment Thursday afternoon. He resides in Childress and was visiting near San Antonio when the news reached him.
