Whitewright schools will dismiss Friday afternoon for Christmas holidays. Students and teachers enjoy a full week off, resuming on December 29 for three days Monday through Wednesday. January 1 and 2 are also holidays. Franklin Montgomery Jr. is superintendent.
The Marvin Methodist Church Sunday School class surprised Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Owen at their Ely area home last Thursday night. The couple, long time Ely residents, plan to move to Sherman this week after selling their south Ely farm to Dick Walker.
Gov. Price Daniel proposed a 10 percent rise in state spending with a expected annual new tax revenue of 65 million dollars and 55 million to wipe a deficit. He urged no general sales or income tax and said the 13 January legislature must raise 60 to 65 million yearly to sustain services.
Dr A Schoenberger in Stuttgart reports a pill made from yeast ferments and plant extracts that keeps drinkers sober while consuming alcohol. He tested it on 24 men who drank 12 glasses of brandy every ten minutes, with a pill taken after each drink. all subjects reportedly behaved normally.

Mrs. Joe M Taylor 44 of Dallas died Sunday at her home on Kirby Street after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday with burial in Laurel Land Memorial Park. She was born in the Kentucky town area to the late F E Vittitoe family. During World War II she and her husband converted the Vittitoe farm into a dairy and poultry operation in Whitewright. A son Joe E Taylor of Dallas survives.
A 28 year old Los Angeles woman said a California highway patrolman was angry during a 20 minute pursuit reaching 115 mph as she headed to testify in a friend's sanity hearing in San Francisco.
The Whitewright Community United Fund met its $3300 target on Tuesday after two months of effort. Led by general chairman Joe Johnson with co-chairs Clint Hennig and Carol Edwards, the drive began with a kickoff breakfast October 14 and closed December 16 with Sears Anderson as treasurer and S. T. Montgomery Jr. as president reporting a slight surplus. Montgomery thanks all supporters, especially chairmen and team captains.
