Grayson County commissioners enacted a wage raise effective immediately boosting pay by $5 monthly for about 45 road employees. They also transferred $13,213.92 from road and bridge funds to precinct accounts to cover November construction, maintenance and machinery purchases. U S 75 A Changes Win Authorization Denison Route
The State Highway Commission authorized the rerouting of State Highway 75 A through Denison at the request of Grayson County and city officials. The new path follows the current U S 75 from Iron Ore Creek via Armstrong Avenue Main Street Tone Avenue Washington Street to the Denison Dam connection with U S 75 in Oklahoma, leaving the Austin Avenue route unchanged. PTA Plans School Equipment Purchase and Program
The PTA held its regular meeting Tuesday at 3 15 in the Grade School auditorium. President Mrs Homer Sears outlined plans to raise funds for a projector and to acquire lunch room equipment. The sixth grade program, led by Mrs Sarah Kilgree, featured Christmas carols and a pantomime. Refreshments thanked the sixth grade for high participation. Eight new members joined PTA records. The public is invited to the next meeting on January 20 1948 at 3 15 in the Grade School auditorium.

Crop Outlook Near Record for Farm Output
Washington reports final government estimates show total production of food, fibers and feed for livestock about 1 percent below the five-year wartime average. A midsummer drought reduced corn by 26 percent from last year, but a record wheat harvest and strong outputs in rice, peanuts, sugar beets, pears, flaxseed, soybeans, hay, tobacco, peaches, grapes, citrus, and truck crops helped push farm output toward historic levels.

AUSTIN Texas plumbers must obtain a state license by January 5, 1948 or face penalties and required examinations. Administror C E Belk of the Texas Plumbing Board warned that there is no extension or exception. Applications postmarked by January 5 avoid exam, but after that date new licenses require testing. Judge Brown speaks on Americanism at Rotary luncheon
Judge David H. Brown of Grayson County Court at Law was guest speaker at the Rotary Club luncheon Friday. He defined Americanism as action and opportunity, urging participation in voting, education, and enterprise, and stressing the need for forward effort rather than nostalgic words. The club approved a plan to develop a children’s playground on city land south of the pump station, sponsored by the Booster Club. Visitors from Sherman included Jim Grady and Fred Pyle among others.

School Inspector Praises Whitewright Schools and Funding
Gil D. McKay deputy state school superintendent inspected the Whitewright schools this week and filed a favorable report with the State Department of Education. He praised teacher work and library operation, noted good property upkeep, and approved the $16,000 state funded salary aid requested by Superintendent B. R. Caraway. The aid is the largest for any Grayson County school. Last year operating cost was $43,000 and will rise to $62,000 this year. Teachers received substantial salary increases. Whitewright school property originally cost about $192,000 including buildings equipment and grounds. The system carries $32,000 in bonded debt with over $4,400 in sinking fund, leaving an approximate net value of $154,000.
