The Whitewright Tigers dominated Howe 26 to 0 to win the Sherman Democrat Morris Jewelry Company trophy for Class B and C football in Grayson County before about 1,700 spectators at Howe. Holmes scored twice with Starr and Thornhill adding touchdowns as the Tigers totaled 409 yards to Howe’s 35. Starr ran 17 times, Thornhill 29, and Kaiser, Cloud and Barnett stood out for Howe. Court Reverses Case of Denison Man in Shooting
An Associated Press dispatch from Austin reports that the Court of Criminal Appeals reversed and remanded for a new trial the case of Eugene Moore of Denison. Moore was sentenced to 15 years for assault to murder in the March 1 shooting that wounded Vesta Lyons in a downtown lunchstand. A five-year sentence for the slaying of Dale Ford, who died trying to stop the shooting, was accepted by Moore without appeal. Ford was fatally injured in the incident between Moore and Lyons.

Fire destroys Bailey lumber yard in six thousand loss
The L. LaRoe & Company lumber yard at Bailey burned Friday night destroying lumber stock and sheds. The office and stock in the office were saved with Leonard fire department help. Loss estimated at about $6,000 and insured. New sheds and stock to be shipped to Bailey soon, says manager W. E. LaRoe.

Sherman officials plan a tighter 1937 budget prioritizing dire need aid and limiting hospital care and pauper funeral reimbursements.
