Big Ten schools split a football television jackpot exceeding $600,000 for 1955. Each member will get just over $60,000 for regional game showings on eight of the nine conference Saturdays. Four national appearances added nearly $300,000 more to the total. Salt use by industry now accounts for 70 percent of consumption. Massachusetts reports 1,696 miles of railroad.
The First Baptist Church choir presents a Christmas Cantata at the Sunday 7:00 p.m. service on December 18. William H. Smith directs with Mrs. Guy Hamilton on organ and Mrs. James H. Gossnell on piano. The Sunday School aims for 300 attendees on Christmas Day and will recognize the top attendance class. no Christmas evening services.

The notice reads as a thanks to supporters and records contributors.
Don E. Dawes of Brookings on the southern Oregon coast mailed 38 pounds of graphite coated coins plus a Santa Claus card to the State Tax Commission to settle a $72.47 1948 income tax. The coins, mostly pennies, cost $2.50 postage. Carl Chambers, tax commissioner, accepted them and assigned staff to unwrap the graphite.
A humorous quip about senses circulates as a caller suggests phone news tips to The Sun. Johnny claims there are six senses, citing common sense as the extra, prompting lighthearted disbelief from the teacher.

The Methodist and Presbyterian Churches join for a White Christmas program at the Methodist Church at 5:00 p m Sunday. Children present three playlets Signs of Christmas A Christmas Prayer and Christmas Cards. Youth present Sharing Christmas A Missionary Christmas and A Scripture Choral Reading. The adult choir performs with special numbers including anthems a duet and a vocal solo. Public invited.
U S Senator Ellender of Louisiana, after touring Europe and Asia, urged not to fund more overseas aid until a full program review. He warned that continued foreign aid endangers the American way of life and called on receiving nations to contribute more. Ellender spoke at a Caddo Lake event honoring lawmakers and Army officials who aided the Ferrell's Bridge dam and reservoir project.
Texas farmers voted 42 632 to 5 451 in 239 of 240 counties to continue cotton marketing quotas for next year. Nationally 267 235 favored and 20 191 opposed, needing a two third majority. West Texas counties showed some opposition to how allotments were set. A gas elevator operator quipped after the remark about ups and downs.
Whitewright post office will stay open Saturday to handle a Christmas mail surge. Regular hours end at noon, but staff will process bundles marked for local and out of town delivery. Postmaster John Biggerstaff urges air mail or special handling for out of town parcels to ensure on time delivery.
The third Sunday Singing Convention meets at Luella at 2 00 p m Sunday Dec 18 announced by F C Williams. The public is invited to attend.
Lloyd Blanton 25 was shot in the head and killed by Y C Pierce 20 amid a debt dispute at a Negro cafe near the Cotton Belt right of way in Whitewright South. Pierce was driven to Sherman with the weapon and Blanton’s funeral was held at White Rock Baptist Church with survivors listed.
Former president Herbert Hoover proposes Congress allow the President to appoint an administrative vice president to relieve the President of many secondary duties. Hoover says the role would not question the President’s capacity but would delegate detailed tasks to aides.
Hugo Carpenter, postmaster at Silver Lake near here, will retire December 31 after 30 years service. Rural Route No. 4 from Grand Saline will serve patrons, with officials estimating annual savings around $2000 by closing the Silver Lake post office.
Funeral services were held at Earnheart chapel for Mrs. Jetta Browning Caraway 89 with burial at Cross Roads Cemetery. Survivors include her daughter Mildred and sons Byron and Wallace. other obituaries note Mrs Bertha Page and Mrs Joe E Coggins with multiple children and grandchildren. Out-of-town relatives attended from Dallas Paris and Lubbock.
Dorothy Ann Hyepock six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Hyepock of Pilot Grove died at 6 pm last Thursday at home. Earnheart chapel service set for 11 am Saturday conducted by Rev J W Polk. Burial in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Born February 4 1949 at Pilot Grove she is survived by her parents three brothers Bill Jack and Bob Hyepock of Pilot Grove and one sister Mrs Charley Johnson of New York City.
Tokyo reports rising female baldness linked to cold wave permanents and a specific hair lotion. The Tokyo Shimbun notes increases since last summer as beauticians express alarm over the condition and its spread among women in Japan.
Whitewright merchants announce a daily party from Dec 19 through next week with a 4 PM drawing awarding 25 dollars in cash to attendees. About 42 participating businesses issue tickets, listed in another display ad. Santa arrives Dec 24 at 4 PM to hand out free candy and participate in the final drawing.
The Hefner Manufacturing Co. will relocate from the Gladys Bay building to the Meador building across the street between Christmas and New Year, resuming Jan 3. The larger 100 by 50 foot Meador space will provide about 4,375 square feet of floor area, plus a balcony, compared with 1,875 feet currently.
Massachusetts epidemic data show polio cases drop with one or two Salk vaccines. Among 285000 unvaccinated children 429 cases occurred, rate 15 per 10000, while 150000 with one shot had 42 cases, rate 2.8 per 10000 and 24000 with two shots had two cases, rate under 1 per 10000.
Health leaders caution against the belief that tuberculosis is vanishing. Despite a 57 percent drop in U S death rates over five years due to new drugs and surgery, TB still causes about 17 000 deaths annually and 100 000 new cases expected in 1956, with ongoing illnesses and disruptions to families.
