Cotton Crop Estimated At 13,153,000 Bales

Washington reports the census bureau places this year’s cotton crop at 13,153,000 bales with 12,225,025 bales by Dec 1. Average running bale weighs 498.8 pounds, lint cotton output 6,289,187,000 pounds valued around $1.42 billion. Cotton seed adds about $200 million.

New Filling Station And Garage To Rise In Woosley Building

Mrs. Gilliam Lindsey buys remaining interests in the Woosley corner building and, with J. B. Hamilton Huffines and W. C. Bailey, plans conversion into a modern filling station garage and machine shops. The corner to be cut back forming a 50 foot triangle with two driveways and new gas pumps. A concrete floor and rest room for ladies will be added. Huffines Bailey partner in operation while Lindsey Hamilton hold rental interests. Also note correction: Chess Pope farm house not W. E. Hardcastle, as previously reported.

Norman Dedicates $650000 Methodist Church as Social Center

The Norman Methodist Episcopal Church, the largest between St. Louis and the Rockies, was dedicated by donors Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. McFarlin of San Antonio in memory of their son. Bishop Edwin D. Mouton presided, with Dr. C. C. Seleeman and Bishop John M. Moore officiating in sessions. The four story building with 95 rooms includes gymnasium, dining rooms, parlors, library and nursery, attracting visitors from Texas Tennessee and Oklahoma.

California Male Quartet Delights At Grammar School

The California Male Quartet presented a varied lyceum program at the grammar school Tuesday evening. The group showcased operatic and Southern folk songs plus popular tunes, with strong harmony and several standout soloists led by Mr. Boleyn in Fishin on Sunday. Mr. Brown and Mr. Tiernan also earned praise, while Mr. Sears impressed as bass and comic moments drew laughs in the Humor esque skit and Simon the Pieman.

Freshman Class Commissioner Elected at Denton College

Miss Elizabeth Groves of the Groves family, a College of Industrial Arts student in Denton, has been elected one of twelve freshman class commissioners. The post honors her from a class of about seven hundred, with duties to promote activities, know peers, boost morale, and report misconduct to the student council.

House Rebuild Underway After Fire Damages Pennington Home

The residence of Rhom Pennington, damaged by fire weeks ago, is under repair with sections razed to the foundation. When finished the building will be virtually a new structure offering full restoration of the former residence.

Rabies Claims Life of Denison Citizen

James Tillman Neil aged 39 died at City Hospital from illness caused by a dog bite. Neil was bitten on Oct. 29 by his own dog which was later killed and sent to Austin for rabies testing. He received Pasteur treatment and worked for Dayton Campbell Grocery Company before falling ill last Monday.

Baptist Sunday School Sees Growing Attendance Progress

The young people department of the Baptist Sunday school reports 18 boys on roll and rising attendance. Teacher J. C. Gillespie aims for 100 percent attendance each Sunday. New members join the class as the girls’ department stays active. A Friday social at Mr and Mrs J C Gillespie’s home featured games and refreshments.

Burnett Death News Reaches Salvyhor Bluff Area

Sid Burnett, long time resident and eldest son of John and Mrs. Burnett, died at his Salvyhor Bluff home. He left a wife and nine children and was mourned by many in the county. Also notes on local events and notices from Manning Clark’s shop and Baptist T E L activities.

Large Farm Home Destroyed By Fire On L P Sears Place

The substantial residence on L P Sears farm three miles north of town burned Wednesday afternoon, destroying a smoke house and meat, with Mr. and Mrs Homer Sears away. The origin remains undetermined though flames appeared to start in the second story. Neighbors saved part of the contents. insurance covered part of the loss which far exceeded the insured amount. The home, long occupied by L P Sears and family, was one of the community’s best farm houses.

Christmas Suggestions At Self Help Club Meeting

Mrs Lanius Everheart hosted the Kentucky town club Friday afternoon with Miss Cooper leading the topic Christmas suggestions. The next meeting is planned for December 19 with Mrs F T Harris as host for an all day social gathering including turkey dinner. Miss Cooper urges full attendance.

Arrests for Possessing and Selling Liquor Reported

Federal prohibition agents in Grayson county arrested three men on Tuesday and one today for possession and sale of intoxicants. Will J. Steen was arrested in Denison and released on 500 bond. Nathan C. Davis appeared before the commissioner and was released on 500 bond. Clay Neal and Frank Sullivan, both negroes, were arrested in Sherman and released on 500 bond. The prisoners face January federal court trial.
