Washington reports warn the public against costly cure alls and quack remedies draining a billion dollars annually. FDA notes 637 inspectors and 725 scientists test products and labels to protect consumers and warn parents.
The Farmers Home Administration of the U S Department of Agriculture loaned a record 637 million dollars in 1962 ending June 30. Nearly half funded operating expenses, with about 205000 families using FHA credit by year end, reflecting rising farm costs and slower product prices.
Nine year old Jamee Schmoll faced severe rheumatoid arthritis causing extreme pain and weight gain. At the University of Rochester Arthritis Clinic she received cortisone and intensive physical therapy. By diet regulation, hydrotherapy, and home care she reduced weight from 118 to 54 pounds and regained mobility and confidence.
