DES MOINES IOWA About 20 000 people packed Veterans Memorial Auditorium to back the National Farmers Organization plan to hold farm products from markets to raise prices. They approved a hogs cattle sheep and grain withholding action set to begin at midnight Friday to push processors into contracts with farmers. no contracts had yet been signed.
Vernon Beckham, state representative-elect, presented 22 certificates to graduates of the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce sales training course in Creative Selling Techniques. The program, funded by the University of Texas Distributed Education Program, ran three 3-hour sessions this week taught by James E. Moore of Austin, with 22 named graduates receiving certificates.

In Hamilton Texas a group of 200 landowners voted to ask Defense Secretary McNamara to halt Army plans to seize their land for maneuvers. Gen. Thomas Dunn of Fort Hood warned that condemnation could begin unless landowners volunteer use of the land.
After Marilyn Monroe's death SOS Friendship in Paris reports more suicide intent calls. The 15 staff volunteers operate 24 7 offering moral comfort to distressed callers. They say about 50 calls daily seek support and one worker spent 214 hours counseling a woman against self harm. The piece also notes veiling customs among Tuareg men and Arab women.
President Kennedy announced the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter and named Labor Secretary Arthur J. Goldberg as his successor. Frankfurter, 80 on Nov 15, has been ill and his long judicial career was praised. Goldberg, born in Chicago, age 54, is a Northwestern Law and JD graduate.
The Sherman Social Security Office advises that there is no six month waiting period after becoming disabled. B D Evans of Wichita Falls is named manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Denison Whitewright Bells Savoy and Pottsboro. He will oversee the business office and commercial operations as growth in the Denison area spurs the new position. Evans, a Burkburnett native, joined Southwestern Bell in 1952 and has held roles in plant commercial and sales before becoming business office supervisor in 1961. He and his wife Donna have two children.
Clifford Wilson Jarvis 36 of Ector died in a noon head on crash west of Bonham. He worked at General Cable in Bonham and left for lunch shortly before. Funeral Friday at Barnhart Chapel at 2:30 p m with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by wife Audry, his parents, a daughter, a brother, and four sisters. Roger Dale York (Olney) injured with broken legs and possible internal injuries after collision.
Dr. R. R. McDaniel, son-in-law of Mrs. F. M. Echols of Denton and husband of Cora Lee Echols, died after a two week illness in Quanah. He was founder and chief surgeon of Quanah Memorial Hospital and practiced medicine there since World War I after serving in the British Medical Corps. Funeral services were held in Quanah with burial in Fort Worth.

The facility will open for business September 10 under Ed die Ray Anderson whose wife works at the Whitewright Medical and Surgical Clinic. Dr Paul E Geers owner says two car loads of furniture are en route between here and New York and should arrive in time for the open house. Geers, who came to Whitewright from a El Paso hospital in 1955, built the clinic on West Main Street three years later. The 178000 dollar project features year round air conditioning and aims to care for 80 patients both ambulatory and bedridden. Built by North Texas Construction Co of Sherman with air conditioning by Lone Star Gas Co.
The House approved a proposed constitutional amendment to abolish poll tax payment as a voting qualification for federal elections. The measure passed 294 to 86 and goes to state legislatures for ratification within seven years.
Researchers study in Flagstaff under Project Baton funded by the Defense Department to reduce thunderstorm activity and related damage. Col. A T Gagge describes the goal as unlocking thunderstorm physics while Army and Meteorology Research, Inc. oversee field work using dry ice, chemicals, ground radar, cameras, lightning detectors, and airborne sensors.
David B. Huffman of Burlington New Jersey urges that men avoid marriage to live longer. On his 101st birthday he attributes his longevity to bachelorhood. Huffman was born in Clinton township and lives at the Masonic Home. he was formerly a farmer and watchmaker.
