The House Post Office Committee voted to restore the administrations postal rate increases for newspapers magazines and other second class mail. It kept a subcommittee revision raising advertising rates for nonprofit publications to match regular publications and approved eight cent air mail postcards. Revenue rises total about 39.4 million beyond the recommendations, driven mainly by higher air mail rates.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Y O Hill 60 at 2 30 p m in First Methodist Church Trenton. She died Aug 17 1967 at her mother Bettie Connelly home. Burial Burns Cemetery. Survivors include her mother four half brothers and two half sisters. Pallbearers listed.

DENISON Visitors to Lake Texoma have chipped in $21,600 in federal user fees so far in 1967, said resident engineer Joe Gregory. He added that keeping nine rangers in the field has cost the Corps of Engineers at least as much as the receipts.

Washington districts colleges will receive 481 748 dollars in Federal funds under the National Defense Student Loan Program for fiscal year 1968. Loans of up to 1000 dollars per student may be made yearly. Repayment starts one year after leaving full time study. Interest is 3 percent. The Federal government covers 90 percent of financing with schools supplying the remaining 10 percent.
Supt S T Montgomery announced the faculty roster for Whitewright Public Schools is set across Grade School and High School. A faculty meeting occurs August 30 at 9 a.m. the High School. Enrollment Thursday precedes classes starting September 5 after Labor Day.

Houston topped Texas in murders and violent crime in 1966 per FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Houston had 247 murders and a murder rate of 14.4 per 100 000, the highest crime rate overall at 2 446.1 per 100 000. Dallas had 153 murders but lower rates. Texas GTA area Kansas?
