John R. Davis 74 Southern Texas resident dies
John R. Davis aged 74 of the Orangeville community died in a Sherman sanitarium last Friday morning. The funeral was Saturday at City Cemetery conducted by Rev. J. F. Fender. Born February 5, 1848 in North Carolina, he came to Texas as a young man and lived near town before moving to Orangeville. He was married to Eliza Valentine who died about a year ago. Survived by brothers Jeff and Tom Davis of Sherman, sister Mrs. Mary Davis of Tyler, and sister Mrs. Sallie Akridge of the Desert community nearby.

Whitewright Reports Busy Cotton Day with 38 Bales In
Thirty-eight bales of cotton were received here Wednesday and gins were busy. The town saw brisk bidding as bales arrived from all directions. Most cotton ginned so far has sold, with lint prices around 22.75 to 23.10 per hundred and seed cotton at eight cents a pound. Farmers expect one-fourth to one-third of a bale per acre, noting dry weather has damaged the crop. Cotton is opening fast and ready to be gathered with good weather.
