Whitewrights first bale of 1922 cotton sold here
G C Wade living three and a half miles east of Whitewright marketed the first bale of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The bale weighed 13 15 pounds in seed and yielded 435 pounds of lint. Planters Gin Company provided ginning bagging and ties free. J L Cantrell bought the cotton at twenty cents per pound. Seed brought 11 83, total 98 83 for cotton and seed. Local merchants added a 26 premium for bringing in the first bale, making Wade’s total 124 83 not including ginning and bagging costs. Wade said most farmers expect one fourth to one third bale per acre and he picked over twenty acres to get the bale. He arrived Monday night to secure the honor.

In Shreveport Louisiana on August 15 a 30 year old black man Jesse Jernigan was jailed on a charge of improper remark to a white woman. Red River Valley Fair plans finalized for Sept show
Sherman August 15 directors of the Red River Valley Fair met at the Chamber of Commerce and approved final arrangements for the fair at Fair Park September 26 27 28 29 and 30. A big parade will open the event with committees appointed to lead the parade and arrange country excursions. Building space is in high demand with enough exhibitor interest to require a new building and two large tents. The Greater Patterson Shows will supply carnival attractions and livestock and agricultural exhibits promise to be larger than last year. The West Texas Chamber of Commerce may add a major agricultural exhibit from Stamford.
