Anna Louise Franklin won first place in the young junior division at the Grayson County 4-H Club dress revue held Friday in Sherman courthouse. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Franklin of Whitewright. Shirley Watson of Howe won top honors and will represent Grayson County at the District 4-H Club dress revue in Dallas on September 7. Funeral services for George Jarvis 57 were held at Bethel Baptist Church in Whitewright with Rev. B D Hardgrove and Rev. Fred Waldrop officiating. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. he died Sunday morning after a three month illness. He was a farmer, member of Bethel Church, survived by wife Jewell and two sons along with his mother and siblings.
Football workouts begin 7:30 a.m. Monday Aug. 26 under Coach Montgomery for those trying out. Season opens Sept. 13 at Celeste, with a schedule listing games through Nov. 15 against Frisco, Anna, Van Alstyne and others. Names of returning Lettermen and squad members are listed along with freshmen players and a faculty meeting set for Aug. 30. Reserved-seat tickets go on sale Aug. 26 with a three week option period.
Mrs. Harlie Howell learns son Herman W. Musser will graduate from United States Air Force Basic Pilot School Multi-Engine on August 29 at Reece Air Force Base Texas. Wings and diplomas will be presented at 10 a.m. that day with congratulations from the commanding officer. Herman, a former Wright High Tigers backfield star, earned the rating as a United States Air Force pilot.

Exceptions include sales from one’s own flock and certain buyers. license fees fund enforcement. licenses due by October 20 with enforcement starting February 17, 1958. The Whitewright City Commission voted Monday night to raise the city tax rate from $1.15 to $1.50, effective for taxes due October 1. City funds will cover a loan repayment and right of way costs for the Whitewright Tom Bean road, with the legacy of rising taxes dating back to 1949. For a $1,000 city-rendered property, the owner will pay $3.50 more, and a $10,000 rating adds $35 more. combined city and school bills rise accordingly.
