Labor May Place National Ticket in Field Next Year
Chicago August 18 Organizing of a national labor party was effected at a conference of labor groups from several states. A temporary organization formed and delegates are summoned for a November convention to set a date and draft a constitution. 2500 to 8000 delegates are expected with 760 central labor bodies and 500 members per group. A tour with Arthur Henderson of the British labor party is planned for October to promote the new party.

First Bale of 1919 Cotton Sells in Lockhart
The first bale for the season was sold Saturday in Lockhart Texas for 32 cents with a liberal premium. Buyer Charley Smith, resident west of Lockhart, handled the sale marking the start of the cotton market for 1919.

Barns Destroyed by Fire Near Sears Home Place
Two barns owned by T. H. Sears were destroyed Sunday night during an electrical storm. Lightning is blamed for the blaze which left hay and oats burning and an estimated loss around $5,000. Sears carried about $1,500 on the structures. he is in Colorado and his final loss is not yet known. The barns stood close together on the home place east of town and neighbors saved the stock before flames spread.

Bell Mullins Dies in Randolph County Auto Crash
Bell Mullins a 48 year old farmer near Randolph was killed Sunday morning in an automobile crash between Eetor and Bonham. Two others injured mildly as three cars were involved, with one rig driven by Cecil McFarland of Ladonia. The accident occurred on a curve with tall weeds obscuring vision and a car swerved into a ditch to avoid collision. Mullins body prepared in Bonham and buried Monday.

Man Shoots Negro In Court Over Brother’s Killing
In Dallas James Anderson now on trial for killing Clarence Potter near Grand Prairie on June 19 1918, was shot by a white man identified as O C Potter seated behind him in Judge Pippens Criminal District Court. Five shots were fired three hit Anderson including in neck cheek and shoulder. He survived and was taken to hospital. Potter was arrested claiming kinship to Clarence Potter.

Cotton Growers Urged Not to Sell in Face of Speculation
Atlanta August. The American Cotton Association executive committee pleads with cotton farmers and holders not to be swayed by propaganda from speculators and buyers offering cheap prices. It denounces efforts to depress prices, notes cotton has dropped $20 to $25 per bale while goods rise, and says once the association reaches one million members it will launch an organized fight for cotton.
