He reports no rain since October and vegetation burned along the route until Grayson County, described as the garden spot of Texas.

Sherman Draft Board Issues Second Call for 261 Registrants

The Sherman selective draft exemption board has issued a second call totaling 261 registrants to meet a 219 man quota. Names from Whitewright area include RK Elliott and Ernest Clark among others. The first seven must appear Friday August 17 at the Sherman courthouse, the rest Saturday the 18th. Denison board has not yet issued a second call.

Large Grayson County Land Deal Sees 440 Acres Sold

A major Grayson County cash land transaction was completed when a deed was filed with County Clerk Nath A. Cox transferring 440 acres near Ambrose, the Hugh Tumulty estate, for 11 000. Purchasers are J Balch Moore and W T Burton, with former owners Catherine Lynch and Tumulty heirs. Tim Murphy of Denison acted as agent.

Barn Burned on Scott Brown Farm North of Town

A barn on Scott Brown's farm two miles north of town was struck by lightning Thursday night of last week and burned completely. Feedstuff and two hogs were consumed. R W Jones lived on the place and owned the feed and hogs. No insurance on the barn contents.
