A 12:30 a.m. fire gutted The Palms confectionary at 115 North Travis Street in Sherman causing about 16000 in damage to the interior and harming two neighboring stores. In Wilburton Oklahoma Aug 12 five non union miners returning home from Bull Hill Coal Mine 18 miles east were shot by unseen gunmen hiding in brush. Everett Edwards 26 was badly wounded with buckshot but expected to recover. Others aged 22 to 28 suffered minor facial and chest injuries. Bloodhounds failed to track the shooters. investigators believe chemical treatment on shoes hindered pursuit.
