Ted C Connell Killeen commander of the Texas VFW will speak at a Sherman meeting on Sunday August 7 with delegates from Cooke Grayson Fannin Hunt Collin and Denton Counties meeting at Sherman Post 2772 as host for District 1. Harold H Rodgers of Denison leads District 1 posts in this department organization.
Attorney General Shepperd ruled that the boosted old age payments may begin September 6, aligning with the $7,000,000 welfare expansion approved by the Legislature and constitutional amendment. State Welfare Director John H. Winters sought the ruling to avoid a delay until October 1 due to a 90 day after session rule.
Rep James A Turman announced Fannin County old age assistance recipients will see a $1 reduction in August checks but September payments will include a $3 increase and restore the August cut. The $1 reduction stemmed from funds shortages. the September boost comes from a state grant increase.

Members of the 4 H Sewing Club are asked to meet at 2 p m next Thursday to rehearse for the dress revue slated for Friday. The group has met every Tuesday all summer and will host a dress revue and tea on August 12 in the Presbyterian Church basement at 3 30 p m.

He noted no president has reached 70 in the White House and said world conditions next year will likely determine his plan. He spoke of an erosion of energy in a presidency and urged bringing forward younger leaders for national service. He praised Vice President Nixon though naming no specifics.
A 39 year old Bonham man is jailed in Durant Oklahoma on suspicion of knifing Alfred Milner 23 of Ely between Ector and Whitewright Milner is in serious condition and transferred to McKinney VA hospital He suffered six knife wounds to his left side and a slashed wrist The suspect was arrested in Denison by Grayson County officers Sheriff Orville Reynolds said the assault occurred two miles south of Durant after an argument in Milners car Donald Pruitt drove Milner to a farmhouse where an ambulance was summoned

Three Wolfe City area farmers ordered 270000 ladybugs from California to combat bollworms after heavy July rains. The bollworms disappeared before shipment arrived, and Texas Agricultural Extension Service advised against using the bugs. Farmers dispute the verdict, noting poisoning also harms beneficial insects.
Mrs. Annie Bartley Rouse 76 of Denison died 8 a m Tuesday in a Denison hospital. Funeral services were at Earnheart chapel at 5 p m Wednesday conducted by Rev. Byron Hardgrove and Rev. J W Polk. Survivors include four sons Ross Olson Bartley Ewel Bartley Cecil Bartley, five daughters Maggie Brown Edna Moore Edith Baker Bud Jones Beulah Mason, one brother Zeb Moore, 27 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

William H. King age 61 of near Bells died Monday night at Dallas Lisbon Veterans Hospital after seven months illness. He ran a highway garage near Bells and did stock raising. Funeral at Earnheart chapel, burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bells. Survived by wife two daughters Mrs Leon Reynolds Bells and Mrs Coy Anderson Sherman, four brothers five sisters and three grandchildren.

Talbott’s resignation as Air Force secretary amid a Senate probe into his private business ties will not damage the GOP in the 1956 elections. Senator Barry Goldwater noted no criminal intent, while Senator Karl Mundt called the move a new ethics standard under Eisenhower.
